Dear Friends and Family,

Whether you are a first-time reader or a seasoned follower of our journey, would you do us a favor and send us an email or comment below to let us know how you feel about our newsletter?

Do you see something we could add that would be helpful to help you understand our journey more? What do you see is missing, or what do you enjoy most about our post? Your input would help us so much!

With all that being said, August carried us from the red rocks of Arizona back home to our own family celebrations. We're so grateful for how you continue to walk alongside us — here's what filled our hearts this month.

AUGUST

Our Sedona Trip

In early August, thanks to a generous friend who paid for our trip, our family traveled to the place we lived for seven years and the town the Lord saved us: Sedona, Arizona. While we were there, Rune had the privilege of preaching for the first time at The Master's Bible Church. This was the church that helped save our marriage and where we grew up spiritually.

It was a full-circle kind of trip: celebrating a marriage covenant and getting to speak God’s word to our home church, all in two weeks. We came home refreshed and reminded of how connected the body of Christ truly is, even across states. One of the highlights of our trips was to see our family in the faith. We missed everyone!

Kane's Birthday

We also celebrated a milestone birthday this month — Kane turned 18 years old!

It's hard to believe the young man before us is the same little boy we've watched grow up all these years. What a joy it has been to walk alongside him into adulthood. We celebrated his birthday at our home, where we had a sleepover movie night sleepover with his close friends under the stars, and had a barbecue dinner, cake, and yard games the next day. He had a blast!

Madeline Turned 3 Months

And our girl, Madeline, turned three months old! She continues to be such a sweet reminder of God's goodness in the midst of a full ministry season.

Three months in, and we still can't get enough of her.

She has started talking to us and just laughed for the first time this month.

Now on to SEPTEMBER...

In September, our family went to two different fall fairs! At both fairs, we were able to show Kane lots of farm animals. We got to see performing dogs, cowboys shooting balloons on horses, and go on some rides.

We also helped organize a carnival for all the residents at His Mansion. Jocelyn did face painting; we had a donut trunk and a dunk tank for the director of His Mansion!

And at the end of September Madeline turned 4 Months!

The Ministry at His Mansion & At Our Church

August has been a particularly challenging season. We’ve traded several medical runs to the emergency room for more interpersonal dilemmas amongst some of the Servant Leaders. However, Rune started a Bible class at His Mansion for our servant leaders, which we are really excited about. We know personally how powerful the word of God can be to transform hearts!

September was particularly challenging because we had several men leave the program for several reasons. Rune is usually the one who handles their departures. It is always hard to see residents leave the program prematurely, not knowing how they will do once they return to their previous environment without being fully equipped to turn away from their addictions.

Rune is still active in the Pastoral Internship at our Church. He has much memorization to complete, book reports, and he teaches the adult Sunday School class every week.

Closing

Thank you for being part of our family's story and this ministry's mission — from wedding celebrations in the desert to a milestone birthday and a growing baby girl at home. Your prayers and support carry us through every season.

We would be so honored if you would hold us in prayer in the coming weeks.

Specifically, we ask for:

  • Wisdom and strength for Rune as he supports our family while continuing to serve the ministry and our local Church.

  • Pray for Rune’s upcoming Sunday School classes at His Mansion.

  • Pray for Rune and his ongoing studies in our Church Pastoral Internship.

  • Pray for harmony and growth in Christ amongst our Servant Leaders at His Mansion.

  • Please continue to pray for the new men and women in the program to know Christ and grow in His likeness (For confidentiality purposes, we are unable to share their names and even significant details of their stories; we know the Lord knows their names).

With gratitude for each and every one of you,

Rune, Jocelyn, Kane & Madeline
