We want to begin by apologizing for missing our monthly update in May and June.
On May 11th, we found out that Jocelyn was pregnant. We had been praying for months that the Lord would expand our little family and bless us with new life. But just a few weeks later, our blessed Lord chose to take our baby home to Himself. In our grief and sorrow, we didn’t think to write an update. Yet in the midst of that heartache, God showered us with grace, warmth, and love through His people. We’ve never felt more cared for. As difficult as it has been, we trust Him.
In the midst of our loss, Jocelyn found deep comfort in the Lord, even in what would typically be a tragic and shattering circumstance. She has never felt so near to the Lord as she did in those heart-wrenching hours. His promises became her anchor, especially the hope that one day, we will be reunited with our children. And that Christ has brought healing to every sorrow, whether we experience that healing fully in this life or in the life to come.

Amidst all the emotions, ministry life continues—and it’s becoming increasingly clear to us just how dynamic this life is. Rune’s construction work back in Arizona was very predictable by comparison. You had the project, your list of materials, and you got to work. Of course, there were always some unexpected variables, but planning was easier. In ministry, you walk with people who are journeying through a landscape full of emotional valleys and hills. No two days are the same. And yet, this is the rich and wonderful life of serving others. It is the blessing we prayed for.
Rune has certainly been stretched over the last few weeks by the demands of work and service in our local church. But the Lord opened his eyes to a great truth from:
1 Peter 5:6–7: “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God… casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you.”

It is God’s hand that is mighty, not ours. Rune found himself caught in the lie that the burdens and needs of the men in the program were his to carry alone. That thinking brought great stress, until the Lord graciously reminded him to cast those cares on Him. Our Lord is the one who works all things together for good. His grace truly is sufficient.
All in all, it’s been a whirlwind here “On the Hill,” as we call it. The middle of June marked the beginning of “transition time,” which happens every four months (February, June, and October). It began with the graduation of our Phase 3 men and women. Tears were shed as we heard their testimonies (you can watch the video here), and we sent them off to begin a new life at home, equipped with hope in Christ.
Kane is doing so well! His speech continues to improve, and a kind woman from our church recently introduced us to a new communication system that has made a noticeable difference. He’s even made some great friends at church. We recently visited a lovely family near Lake Winnipesaukee, and their kids hit it off with Kane right away. It was a refreshing and joy-filled visit. We are so thankful for the godly, warm, and welcoming families the Lord has brought into our lives here.

Now, as July begins, things have ramped up considerably. About a dozen new men and women have joined the program. That means a full workload for Rune, helping each new man get the care he needs, navigating the many challenges that come with adjusting to life in the dorms.

Meanwhile, Jocelyn was asked to present the Summer Shindig—our annual talent show here at His Mansion. She and her co-leader (and good friend) Cierra had a blast dressing up as old ladies from the South to announce the event, which is scheduled for July 16th. Jocelyn is looking forward to encouraging the community and helping everyone bring their God-given gifts to the stage.
We’ll be sure to include some highlights in next month’s newsletter, but here's a little preview, see the photo the the left.
Prayer Requests:
For continued healing and comfort as we grieve the loss of our baby, and for the Lord to bless us with a healthy pregnancy and child.
For Rune’s endurance and wisdom as he shepherds the new men in the program, and clings to Christ in all things.
For Jocelyn as she presents the Summer Shindig, may it be a time of joy, unity, and encouragement within the community.
For Kane’s ongoing speech development and his social connections, that he would flourish in this season.
For the residents’ genuine heart change, that the residents would not just modify behaviors but be transformed by the renewing of their minds through God’s Word.
For the residents’ protection from spiritual attack, as many come out of darkness into the light, pray that God would guard them against the enemy’s lies and accusations.
